One way of looking at art is in terms of contrast. Goethe in his theory of colors emphasized contrast. The composition is balanced contrast of complementary colors in space , saturation, texture, etc. Visual forces balancing each other to make an overall pleasing effect to the eye and mind or causing an emotional response.
